Welcome to the British Phycological Society's Website. The Society, a charity devoted to the study of algae founded in 1952, was one of the first to be established in the world, and is the largest in Europe.
The British Phycological Society publishes the European Journal of Phycology, and organises an Annual Meeting each year at locations throughout Britain and Ireland. It provides funding for students and others to attend meetings and fieldcourses and organises and funds annual field courses.
This website provides a summary of the Society's activities and events.
Membership of the British Phycological Society is open to everybody. Click here to download a pdf of the Society's brochure. You can join on-line with a secure credit-card payment through PayPal, or you can download a form and send it with your remittance to the Society's Membership Secretary.
